Altun ha

Worl_altunha_lAltun ha was an ancient Maya city, located 30 miles north of Belize City. Its largest temple is the "Temple of the Masonry Altars" with 54 feet high, and the entire area contains the remains of 500 structures in 5 square miles. The site started to be excavated and restored in 1965 by a team of the Royal Ontario Museum, and one of its most important discoveries was a large piece of jade of 10 pounds, carved into the image of the head of Kinich Ahau, the Maya Sun God.
